hats off to the milliner

this is shaping up to be a very fashion driven week so far ..... but over the weekend i had a chat with some girlfriends and we all agreed that we would like to bring hats back - they seem a wasted fashion opportunity at this stage -

throughout history the hat has been a very visible canvas for fashion and i just dont see why our generation should be deprived - im not suggesting that we reintroduce it as any sort of mandatory cultural practice as it once was or a just for weddings type of deal either... simply it seems that on any give day a hat could really top off the 'auld outfit - an im not thinking about straw fedoras either ....
i was thrilled!! to see a stunning selection at anthropologie and this sent me into a sort of tail spin... in search of a gorgeous hat.... now i just have to figure out what size my head is.

i also loved these two vintage hats from etsy sellers: vintage straw derby hat; ethanollie (top photo). 1920's straw cloche; saffroncoloredpeony. ladies straw wide brim sun hat; ralphswarehouse.

looks to love

there are so many gorgeous looks out there this spring.... i was at my mom's house this weekend and saw the new talbots catalogue - all im going to say is wow!! they really have stepped up their game. i cant believe it but ive ordered this skirt and the pretty blush top in the bottom photo. ill let you know! but go check out their gorgeous new items and ad campaign.

also on my list for spring - prints!and anthropologie has got it covered. im hoping this dress will be my go too for the season - it should be arriving soon. and i love the elegance of the outfit to the right - big 40's sleeve on the top and that long skirt. all in a modern twist of stripes and florals. also check out their feb'11 catalogue if you havent yet

and this ring just has me over the moon. ive always loved big vintage cocktail rings and i might have to add this piece of costume jewelry to my collection -

what looks do you love this spring ??

what spring will bring

its sometimes strange for me, a new england transplant, to get inspired for changes of the seasons as things here in sanfrancisoc seem to be all jumbled up. this weekend felt like autumn to me and earlier this month it was summer. the changing of the seasons does happen, thought its just a bit more hushed -

i find that i mimic this hush not with drastic closet rotations as the east coast dictates but simply changing up fabrics, going for a little lighter or a little heavier depending on the season. with spring on the brain.... ive been thinking about this outfit as a daily basic -

not in frame

ive been to enough auctions in my life to know its not always whats in the frame that matters. sometimes its simply the frame itself.

In amsterdam this summer while strolling through the rijksmuseum, i found myself captivated but in some instances it was by the sheer beauty and intricacies of the frames around the old paintings. Delicate, detailed, elegant and telling a story all on their own.

Ive been seeing a few photos around the blog world of just frames - hanging on the wall. no need to fill them just simply allowing them to be seen, to be admired and appreciated - and i think thats simply lovely.

imagine the combinations you could create -
i found these two very old and very beautiful frames and they are in the shop now waiting to grace someone's walls ~

fall lust

so ive just finished drooling over the fall 2010 anthropologie catalogue. im loving all the deep, rich fall colors with an english countryside/equestrian bent....did i mention the drooling.

not only are the fabrics and clothes stunning. i feel like i am experiencing the texture of the heavy woolen fall fabrics. but the photographs go above and beyond i feel like ive walked into a whole little world in these 60 odd virtual pages. go have a look, ive even ordered a hard copy. i foresee some long term inspiration coming from these pages
