i adore these delightfully bright and whimsical designs by Lotta Kuhlhorn a swedish born illustrator. many of her designs are translated into textiles; perfect to punch up a kitchen or for fun pillows in a breakfast nook. she also creates the most wonderful book cover illustrations.

In with the Mid Century Modern : the finished product
you all may remember that i found this chair in the back of a salvage truck on the street in san francisco. literally sitting atop a mountain of junk being removed from a basement somewhere around hayes valley. after a brief chat with the driver of this truck and a few eye rolls from SOS the chair was mine.
and then the dilemma began. what?! was i going to use for fabric, what style cushion, what size cushion, welting or no welting. i must have looked at 50 different fabric and changed my mind 200 times. you can see my progress in this post. and in the end i chose exactly what i thought i didnt want at the start and i couldnt be more thrilled with the outcome. THRILLED!
i took a risk (well risk for me anyway not for some) on the fabric choice. one day it was just like bam! sitting there at the fabric store right in front of me and i knew that was it. from there i let the fabric and the line of the chair guide me as far as cushion style and size. im so excited.
i hope you enjoyed this little series and i would love to hear what you think.
P.S. i picked up a new project last night and will be starting another little series on that.

park chairs project
amazing yes - usable at this moment - not really. structurally they are sound, they just need a little cosmetic overhaul - in the realm of either paint or re-varnishing them. but the biggest and most fun part of this little diy project i have decided to under take? fabric. the seats of these chairs all "rest" on the fabric - no fabric? no way the chair will even stand up. so now i am on a mission for 1 yard of very very strong fabric - i've also thought about needle point (though its not really my style) or trying to refabricate a lightweight rug of some sort into seats for these two cuties -
wish me luck and stay tuned there will be progress updates - if you have any suggestions, comments or inspiration please send it my way i would love to hear your ideas

lobster and swan

these lovely images are from the talented brit over at lobster and swan - not only are her images melt in your mouth good, but all the sweet little garlands are her own creation. you can find some in here in her shop.

i think these would look fantastic over the top of curtains just to add a little interest and detail - i know mine could use some! i love the above and below for adding detail and just a subtle bit of color. i also have a set of bathroom curtains that could use a little punch up!
also - how wonderful is the frame wall over her table so simple and yet so elegant - i think my heart just skipped a beat! i would imagine that using this for inspiration you could create something similar on a very shoestring budget.

ahhh wonderful
