a little preview of the summer 2012 collection coming soon to cottage farm. As always, I am inspired by the nautical history of the san francisco bay area. From the end of my street, I can see the oakland ports out across the bay. But, san francisco has always had an affection for and need of the water that laps our front yard.
This summer collection is all about finding your way, a very important and often treacherous task on the water, it can be just as complicated on land. Maps, instruments and flags are just of few of the lovely things that will help you find you way this summer.
Keep a look out for these items and more to be in the shop soon.
I love the incredible beauty wrapped up in these utilitarian pieces. Simple lines of form and function rule and the bits that make me weak in the knees come only with time and use. I strive to surround myself with pieces that inspire but that is not to say that I want a house filled with precious objects. In fact quite the opposite is true. I want my life to be reflected in the objects around me in the most tangible of ways - look at the yellowware batter bowl below for example. It has been worn in such a way that could only be achieved over many many years of stirring in that same bowl. How many meals were started here. This aged beauty stops me in my tracks. Perhaps not a batter bowl anymore but certainly perfect for mounds of fruit or other such unruly pantry staples.... all of these lovely things will be coming to the shop very soon.
Though not specifically about the kitchen~ the wear, utility and age are as evident in these pieces as in any above.

i hope everyone has had a lovely week. i have been having a wonderful time on the east coast seeing family and friends. It has been an amazing vacation thus far. Im excited to get back to san francisco and put up my holiday decorations. Have you done anything special for the holidays yet?

today marks my first day of this week long buying trip for the shop - the thrill level is high at the moment and i will be reporting in from the road.

recently i have been very attracted to pottery. its always something thats been on my radar screen but not much of it has make its way to CottageFarm - in the last few weeks im loving big heavy old rustic piece with a utilitarian nature.
much of my craving for this style pottery is inspired by those big provincial kitchens you see filled to the brim with every size and shape of simple but elegant pots, vases, jugs, pitcher, crocks....and well you get the picture.
