Things Im Loving : Plane travel comfort

I'm off this afternoon for a whirlwind tour of well, half the world. At least it feels that way! So todays post is inspired by things I'm loving for casual but chic plane travel.

Very important ~
Each of these layers on their own is featherweight so they add warmth without bulk. I love the bit of  glamor in the satin detail on this crepe blazer . The pop of color from the persimmon sweater will be great after my 7 hr flight. The pretty color will keep me from looking washed out after the long flight and you can never go wrong with a striped base layer!

I'm pairing the top layers with classics like dark skinny jeans, a chic leather loafer, and animal print belt.  I am seriously lusting after this chunky men's watch. It is a practical alternative to a cuff bracelet, and I know I will get to my flight on time!and the hefty scale is very cool. Of course no plane trip would be complete without the large catch all bag. I love the structure of this leather one and the detail on the handles.

* I will be in and out of the blog over the next few weeks, but do check back. Regular posting will return after the 8th of July.

Things I'm Loving : Bucs!

Some times its a case of "an oldie but a goodie". I grew up wearing bucs, one of the only acceptable pieces of footwear for my school dress code, and now I find myself again coveting a pair. This time to be worn with my adult dress code - skinny jeans, a striped top and on chilly summer days a long sweater. They are all boyish charm at its best. And I must admit I do have a crush

A pair would be perfect for walking around London. Smart, tailored & charming they are right in line with London's style sensibility. Straight to the original source for these. GHBass. They have been making bucs & saddles since the 1800's. I especially love the navy & tan pair.

Loving these updated versions too! Super stylish for the city. I would definitely put the summery white pair to good use. Maybe with this striped sheath dress -

things im loving

this perfect fall outfit. it makes me excited to think about transitioning my wardrobe
the mysterious botanical photographs of Karl Blossfeldt
How gorgeous food looks on grey transferware & this spectacular recipe
this smooth slivery room that feels full of late summer breezes
and this photo. I haven't seen it before and I love everything about it. It feels like a moment captured on one of the last days of summer on the Cape. When the sun is still strong but the air has turned and a chill laps at its heels.

My most favorite kind of beach day!

Sights from Sweden

well, I had an amazing trip. Sweden was everything I had hoped it would be and more. Stockholm is a gorgeous city and many photographs were taken. Thought I would share a few with you today.
Enjoy these sights from Sweden....
this little guy had his breakfast right outside our window every morning. he was quite sweet and not exactly shy.
I loved the branches that many people had hung on their doors. Im not sure exactly what its all about but I loved how simple and elegant it looked.
There were beautiful flowers both inside and out. The Swedes do love their blomma and I love them for it. So many delightful flower shops, I think I must have stopped to chat with each proprietor. And all public places are filled with color too. I saw a lot of allum and this park was also filled with divine lavender.

a few more post to come ...

Urban Cartel

simple, beautiful utilitarian pieces with modern appeal fill the virtual shelves of Urban Cartel. I am smitten with the soft glazes and the controlled organic nature of this "contemporary porcelain" from the melbourne, australia shop
I have mostly white dishes & prep bowls in my kitchen and any of these would easily accompany them. The thought of using the lipped bowls in my next (and probably unsuccessful) baking endeavor makes me quite happy indeed.

Uprise Art

I had lunch yesterday with some dear friends who are in town visiting. We were chatting away about all sorts of things (the kinds of conversations you can only have with good friends) it was a wonderful way to spend part of an afternoon.
In the course of that conversation they told be about a relatively new company called Uprise Art. I was very excited at their description and rushed home to check it out. Uprise Art allows you to bring contemporary art into your space for a time. You sign up and for a small fee each month you can have a piece by one of their artists hang in your home. And it all arrived custom-framed, hand delivered and installed into your home.

At the moment they are only in New York and just recently in Boston but oh how I wish this service were available in San Francisco. I can hardly think of a better way to experience and grow an art collection at this point in my life.

harbor cottage

I found this little hide-away on justine's lovely blog designskool. I was immediately transported to the familiar... the costal maine air heavy with the sea and that smooth rock coast line beneath bare feet. Its a place I know intimately even without having been to this beautiful little cottage set on one of maine's many costal marshes. It embodies what is special about new england and maine in particular... & you could rent it if you like. I would certainly like to.

Filly Designs

filly designs has put together a very pretty look book for their spring collection. This collection captures perfectly a feeling of simple country living. I am drawn to the warm colors and clean whites. It all seems effortless and unrestricted just how I should think I would like to feel in a little house tucked away somewhere. It makes me dreamy for warm lazy days to read books on a worn in couch and pick berries and flowers on a walk through the green...............

in love with lucite

im crushing on lucite furniture at the moment. When i first moved into the apartment (which was gulp! almost a year ago... how did that fly by? and yes im a very methodical decorator) I was a bit intimidated by the lay out of the living room.  There are three entry points to the room and the fourth wall is a bank of windows. The two doors face each other which creates a long sweep that cuts the top of the room and I havent been able to truly make it work. But, after a year of thinking and looking and patiently working to understand the space, i think i know the perfect solution. Lucite!

these images are perfect examples of its ability to be "there" with out really being "there" and i love how they add elegance and structure to these rooms. do you have a your favorite ?

Summer Collection. Heath Ceramics

I know I said you wouldn't be hearing from me until monday but I just couldn't wait to tell you how excited I am over Heath's new for summer colors. Melons, corals, matte orange & grapefruit seem to be popping up everywhere you look. And, I must admit I am loving it!
i think this tonal range in incredibly stunning. So I was thrilled to see Heath's line for summer in these pretty poppy tones. I would really like a set of the trays for the bath. Such a pretty way to stay organized.

ok.. and now im gone.
