wine list wednesday

all of the fresh spring vegetable are bursting from the farmer's market - snow peas, mint, pea tendrils and lots of lemons - and so a crisp bright wines was most certainly the only option -
Terra Robles made by the Robert Hall vineyard.
its bright on the tongue - perhaps just a hair too acidic, but has nice citrus, grapefruit and pairs nicely with food. what i particularly liked about the terra robles is the lovely mouthful of orange blossom and honey - quite unexpected but very welcome -
delightfully priced at 9$
pair with fresh pea and mint risotto.

wine list wednesday

Happy wednesday! im off to an auction this evening and im quite excited about the whole event- hoping to post a few pic tomorrow.

this wine this wednesday is a bottle of Dry Creek fume blanc 2008. the first thing to notice is the bright nose on this wine - citrus fruit and the sweetness of candied orange blossom.

its perfect just for sipping as its quite well balanced or it would be nice with a light pasta dish - fresh peas a little bur blanc sauce. yum!

its sweet on the tongue with a nice punch of acid, grassier on the finish and has a nice refreshing ending.

overall i liked it and at around 12$ a bottle its worth a try.

wine list wednesday

a rich dessert wine - Honig 2006 Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc - it is made with the last and most condensed/flavorful little grapes on the vine. it smells divine and tastes of sweet apricot and honey and fills the mouth with a nice ripe white peach flavor toward the end and then the last little bit lingers and has a pleasant citrus tingle. a beautiful golden color and legs for miles.

this is the wine to break out those sweet little dessert glasses you have but never use. it has an air of opulence and deserves a bit of show.

on or two tastes is enough. accompanying a fig tart or custard its to die for or would be nice with a simple goat cheese and some toasts.

around $ 55.

* the bottle presents beautifully. i just love the bee skep logo. it would make a wonderful gift.

wine list wednesday. oyster bay sauvignon blanc

some of you may be familiar with this sweet little wine. about 9$, i think its absolutely delightful and quite approachable. and its from New Zealand. fun no?!

a lovely nose and just as lovely, the first sip. its got a nice bit of sweetness. ripe orchard type fruit and honey. but its not overkill. not sticky sweet. just a little bit of lip smacking dryness at the end. it would be perfect indeed with a simple potato and leek soup or a delicate shallot and pancetta pasta.

yum! i think youll like this one......

wine list wednesday : Ruston

im excited for my first wine list wednesday post. unfortunately im less excited about the wine i chose for this first post :

Ruston 2008 sauvignon blanc. 6.99$ at trader joes.

a plus for this wine is that the vineyard was certified organic in 2008, but it was a bit unbalanced for my liking and tasted the best on the 3rd night after i opened it.

it did have bright citrus fruit and was crisp as you would expect from a sav. blanc.  but right out of the bottle all of this was lost by the overpowering acidity. on the third night after opening however this overly acidic and slightly tart aspect of the wine had for the most part died away and it had a richer more honey based flavor.

moral of the story. i might sight this guy on the shelf another 6 months and see what happens.
