In with the Mid Century Modern : the finished product

im so! excited to share the sequel to In with the Mid Century Modern

you all may remember that i found this chair in the back of a salvage truck on the street in san francisco. literally sitting atop a mountain of junk being removed from a basement somewhere around hayes valley. after a brief chat with the driver of this truck and a few eye rolls from SOS the chair was mine.

and then the dilemma began. what?! was i going to use for fabric, what style cushion, what size cushion, welting or no welting. i must have looked at 50 different fabric and changed my mind 200 times. you can see my progress in this post. and in the end i chose exactly what i thought i didnt want at the start and i couldnt be more thrilled with the outcome. THRILLED!

i took a risk (well risk for me anyway not for some) on the fabric choice. one day it was just like bam! sitting there at the fabric store right in front of me and i knew that was it. from there i let the fabric and the line of the chair guide me as far as cushion style and size. im so excited.

i hope you enjoyed this little series and i would love to hear what you think.

P.S. i picked up a new project last night and will be starting another little series on that.

a little "5 minute" makeover -

so i found two amazing chairs for my kitchen this weekend - at 5$ each i really couldn't say no now could i?! and im so happy i didnt because i think they look amazing in my spartan little kitchen - i love that they match but well, dont

- usually i have a a tablecloth(one of the many from my collection) on the table, also a vintage find, but i wanted to show off the lines of these great chairs!! the bf loves them too and now we will have a set of two extras for when guests come so i dont have to whip out the metal folding chairs (ya i know). though now im thinking the area needs a bit of jazzing up ..... any suggestions?

moving to the country II - le petite maison

happy monday everyone! today i have some more of the gorgeous interiors from a country home in france - in may ways this space is exactly what you would expect to find in a small village in the heart of french farmland - but further exploration reveals that this house has a lovely balance between the expected and the unexpected - between traditional/classic farmhouse decor and a totally modern sensibility! - i hope that you are able to find inspiration and comfort as you view this post, as thats what i experienced while in this space.

hey - anyone else think that that metal basket looking thing hanging closest in the photo is for eggs - turns out its not - its for washing and shaking out lettuce - who knew?!!!

one thing i particularly love is that the wood in the house has many different depths of color and texture. i normally don't fall for light wood, but in this case i think it brings a sense of modern rustic to the space - and another interesting thing about this wood im told is that it never really ages - it is not treated or stained to look like this, but it retains a light fresh milled look to it - very unusual dont you think?

i always love sleigh beds and this one is incredibly beautiful but at the same time its absolutely a piece that i expect to see in a farmhouse - the leggy furniture paired with a a sleigh bed helps to take some of the heaviness out of the piece. and the two tables paired with the ladder back chairs seem to fit together so effortlessly - which is actually exactly the phrase i would use to describe this entire space- effortless, timeless and beautiful.

how amazing is this table - it anchors the center of this very open floor plan and is beautiful just as a focal point - not even considering the kicking dinner parties you could have tucked away up here - dining on wine, cheese and rabbit pate

love love love this old metal tub - which now stores extra linens and pillows for the house - an the open case clock hanging casually on the wall behind it - i usually find clocks like this pretty stuffy but this one is so cool looking - ill be keeping my eye out for something similar i have a great spot in my apt for one!

hummm... doesnt this bottle lamp look familiar - looks like it was just as stylish 30 years ago!

im a total sucker for impromptu still lifes! the light here was just too good to pass up!

minimal love: elisabeth dunker

welcome to the perfect kitchen of elisabeth dunker, blogger at fine little day, as well as artist, stylist and photographer, etc. etc. i am drooling over this space. i love how welcoming and calm the space feels. the pallet is stunning don't you think? and im a sucker for checkered floors - i never envisioned my wedding as a little kid only my kitchen and the floors have always been checkered. these however are so chic, look they are not pure black but more of a grey or slate tone - the danish modern chairs around the farmhouse table and the simple and elegant grouping of plates behind it all!!

notice i haven't mentioned the light fixture because what ever i say about it will not do it justice so lets me just say this.aaaaaaaaah!
a poul henningsen design from around 1958. its stunning - it takes my breath away.

ok confession
- i found these images via design*sponge- normally i try not to rip off other blogs, especially not a big girl blog like design*sponge but i'm sooo inlove i just had too
